Layers of Mexico is an independent cultural publication about Mexico — its people, communities, traditions, crafts, small businesses and their relationship with the land.
We are not a travel guide. We do not rank restaurants or list places to visit. We look for the stories behind the land, the people and the places: a fishing family on the Oaxacan coast, three generations of weavers in Mitla, a small family business and the community around it, a tradition changing as it passes from one generation to the next.
What we believe
Every story should be worth reading on its own, whether or not it promotes a destination, a business or a product. Our editorial work is independent of any commercial relationship.
We photograph and write with consent, care and time. We credit the people who make this work possible.
Draft manifesto — to be refined before launch.
